After another whirlwind weekend tour, I find myself back in my apartment, only about 60 hours and 550 miles after I left. I covered a lot of ground and had some good times.
The bad news is that my back is killing me for a couple of reasons. All the muscles are knotted up. This is probably due to sleeping on the floor for two nights.. and possibly due to some level of dehydration. Plus, I’ve got a pretty healthy (err, unhealthy?) sunburn on my shoulders. I will be sleeping like a baby tonight. [/sarcasm]
Instead of the all-interstate path I normally take to Charlotte, I took US-29 straight down to I-85 near Greenville. The traffic is lighter, but it is not as open a route. In the end, it saved me about 15 minutes and 30 miles. I took the same path on the way back. But I stopped 3 times and missed an exit once. I still made great time. Actually, the mileage on the way back was still less than the initial mileage. So I’ve got that going for me, which is nice. But the problem with this route is magnified at night. The road is not as flat or straight as a normal interstate. The shoulders are thinner or non-existant and there’s nearly no lighting. This makes for very poor forward visibility. I was often wondering if there would be asphalt in front of me in 20 yards. There’s nothing quite as fun as driving 65 MPH on very curvy roads where a deer is probably just waiting to jump out in front of you. I may have to stick to the interstates, because they’re just easier.
So what lesson did I learn this weekend? I don’t have an effing clue.
Cheers,
Nobrainer
