On my 2nd full day of vacation I had no plans. Tomorrow was a wedding with all the et ceteras. Today was to be full day of nothing. I could do nothing if I wished, or spontaneously do whatever might happen to come to mind… eat at a random crab shack, take a walk on the beach, or perhaps go wine tasting.
My how things change.
Late last night I learned of plans to visit the Hearst Castle. Leave at noon. Begin tour at 1:45. Finish tour around 3. Be back around 5. So there went most of the afternoon. This would have been more OK had I known that it was actually planned. Rather, it had been passed along as a question, “What do you think about visiting the Hearst Castle.” The response was that with a 1+hour drive up and 1+hour drive back… it was too much driving than I’d prefer for a 5-day trip that has cross-country flights on both ends of it. It seemed the idea was dead. Apparently it was just a zombie.
As soon as we arrived back at the rental house, we learned of new plans, “oh! we’ve been invited to the rehearsal dinner.” How fitting. I’d asked many days before I crossed the country if I should plan to attend a rehearsal dinner. Oh well. Hopefully the food is good; I do like free food.
