A pet peeve

Another thing that always bothers me is people who refer to their SUVs as trucks. In some instances, there is some gray area and I try not to get mad at that. But, based on some of the webstats for this blog, someone come here through the Google query, “is there anything wrong with using stp gas treatment in a saturn vue 6 cylinder truck”. While I’m guessing there isn’t anything wrong with using STP in a Saturn Vue (or any other typical car), there is something wrong when you can confuse a Saturn crossover SUV as a truck. That’s just being delusional.

Update: Ok, let me back off that. If you, like me, consider crossover SUVs to be the station wagons that they really are, and you admit that the most famous station wagon ever was the Family Truckster (oh my god… it has its own Wikipedia page), then, ok, maybe you can get away calling a Vue a truck. If it has eight headlights and wood paneling. Maybe.

So, the question is, do you call a SUV a car? I drove a Jeep of some sort for many a year and always said things “my car is broken again” or “my car won’t start unless you jiggle the gear shifter” and such. Would it have been more proper to say, “my SUV is broken again”?

I 100% agree on the use of the word truck. That’s just silly.

It all depends upon the chassis. Technically, the EPA and DMV consider my Honda Odyssey to be a “light truck” due to weight, chassis configuration, etc. Many of the SUVs start out on the same basis.

Some of the smaller ones actually work off a car chassis, so you can rightly scorn them, methinks.
