Scam alert: eftgifts.com (AKA Earth’s Finest Treasures)

I’m pretty upset with this one (more than my normal state of being upset).

On December 8th, well before Christmas in my book, I ordered some Christmas presents. You can bet (since I’m posting this here) that they took my money and haven’t bothered to do anything. I just filed a complaint with paypal, so I may be able to get my money back.

They’re a real great website to order from. They don’t offer a phone number. They don’t reply to emails. And they go on vacations over the holidays, for over a week at a time, or so says their auto-response email. But they do list a phone number, 614-895-2170, if you dig through the details of the paypal transaction; the downside is that it’s disconnected. As is another phone number, 866-488-2170, which shows up through some Google searches as their “service number”. Real pros there.

On the upside, I don’t feel as bad because I just read this thread at Amazon. Apparently eftgifts was offering some kind of Playstation bundle for Christmas. They of course failed to deliver the Playstations, and in some cases shipped boxes filled only packing materials.

I guess this will cure me of ever again not buying from the retail giants.

UPDATE 2009-01-18: It’s been 5 days and EFTgifts has yet to respond to my PayPal complaint. Only 5 more days until I learn whether or not I can get any of my money refunded.

UPDATE 2009-01-24: Paypal agrees that EFTgifts ripped me off. EFTgifts didn’t even bother to respond to my complaint.

After careful review, we have concluded our investigation of the Buyer
Complaint described below.

We have decided in your favor, however, we were unable to recover any funds
from the seller’s account. As stated in the PayPal User Agreement, recovery
of funds associated with a Buyer Complaint cannot be guaranteed.

Please know that we will make our best effort to recover the funds in
question if they become available in the seller’s account in the future and
will take appropriate action against the seller. Such action may include
issuing a warning, a temporary restriction, or terminating the account.
Keep in mind that PayPal uses a number of factors to determine when to take
action, including member complaints. Due to privacy laws, we cannot discuss
the details of any action taken. We hope you understand our policy and that
it assures you that you are safe using PayPal.

Well I certainly don’t feel safe using Paypal. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that once they are sent more money by anyone else, that money will become mine. If so, that’s a really twisted way to handle these types of situations.

How I Feel

I have order from http://www.eftgifts.com a few times now and I have been satisfied each time. Each item that came in was packaged with care and none were destroyed during shipment. In fact, each package came with it’s own seal plus an additional seal by eftgifts for extra protection during shipment. I was greatly pleased in the care that they took in shipping my items to me.

Most of the items I ordered, the lady’s would be able to give to their children or grandchildren. I also ordered beads and cords for each lady to make a necklace for all the little girls in our church. This was a way to let the little girls know that the big girls loved them and that we thought of them. And of course each little girl loved her necklace.

Over all I have found some great buys at http://www.eftgifts.com and have been happy with each and every single one of them.

I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.

God Bless!

Well Tina, this does not help at all. It really makes me feel great to know that they used to be competent.

If you’d really like to help, how about you call up the folks at eftgifts and ask them what gives? Well, if they actually had working phone numbers. So how about you email them? Maybe they’ll email you back since they seem to like you. Clearly they don’t like me. Their silence is a very loud “fuck off.”

collapse nobrainer Says:

“Tina”, I know you’re still lurking around. Have you anything to say for yourself?

I smell a plant, personally. ‘Twould seem like EGifts has a Google search notification turned on and someone is trying to generate a little astroturfed positive PR.

I completely agree.

And with a quick google search for the phrase “Most of the items I ordered, the lady’s would” reveals exact matches for a 2004 review of the OrientalTradingCompany.

Gee. That looks familiar. There’s nothing like using outright theft/plagiarism when trying to convince people that you’re legitimate.

WOW. First – sorry to see what happened. I will vouch that while Amazon may not always be the “lowest” price, I’m willing to pay them (I’m a Prime member by the way, which is nice for other reasons) as I can use my credit card – which protects you far more than PayPal. Screw paypal and ebay for that matter. Second – hilarious that you actually had someone post on here about “their great experience with ACME Company”. I wonder if Wile E. Coyote would say the same about his experiences.

Lastly, as and IE, the world needs to realize the amount of time we waste looking on websites for the best price, etc. At the end of the day, if you consider your time worth anything, you likely waste the money you think you are saving to search for the best price/shipping/etc. Food for thought.

collapse nobrainer Says:

You’re absolutely right.

For the most part, I end up purchasing most stuff through Amazon unless they don’t have it or if a quick search on google.com/products doesn’t reveal anything dramatically cheaper from trustworthy sources.

In this case, the item I was looking for appeared to be only available in 2 places so I opted for the cheaper one.

The same thing happened to me when I ordered an item from eftgifts.com. They took my money, said that the item was backordered when I followed up two weeks later, and simply ignored my emails after that. I just filed a claim with Paypal, but after reading what happened here, it doesn’t seem like there’s much hope that my payment will be refunded.

Don’t buy from eftgifts.com — it’s a scam!

I do not recall if I ever did order for them or not. But they wiped my bank account clean with my check card number! I managed to find out it was them through one of the charges on my bank. It listed the merchant and their number and they found out it was them!
