Random things

  • I bought some of the new Forever stamps from a machine yesterday. As change, I got my first dollar coin that features a POTUS. I like it and still wish they’d stop printing $1 bills. I also received a 1943 “Wartime” Nickel (P-series if you care). It may be worth up to 99 cents on eBay.
  • I found out today that I may be an elitist (maybe I already knew it?). It came up because of a suggestion I made.
In a discussion about transportation, and given the conditions that someone can’t afford gas, a new car, can’t live close to work, and has no access to public transit, I suggested they buy a moped. So I now hate poor people.
collapse Waldo Jaquith Says:

It’s pathetic that the companies that provide the fabric/paper for the paper bills have such sway over Congress that they’ve been able to keep dollar bills in use for so long. The time to move to coins is long, long past.

collapse nobrainer Says:

I hadn’t thought about that aspect. On the other hand I have known people who are vehemently (well maybe they don’t feel quite that strongly) against any change that might mean they end up with a few extra coins in their purses.

collapse Paul Anderson Says:

If the dollar bill was eliminated in favor of the dollar coin, most people would have fewer coins in their pocket. This is because you would be more likely to spend your coins as you receive them, not just hoard them. This happened in Canada when they introduced their $1 and $2 coins.

collapse Agent Orange Says:

You’ve always hated poor people, you just called them hippies.

collapse nobrainer Says:

They want to save the world but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad.

collapse trickey Says:

Another funny “discrimination” story: One of my friends who works in NYC was having a discussion about ipods with two male co-workers while leaving the office for lunch. One guy was trying to decide what kind to get. The other guy said that Joe Schmo, a coworker who is asian, liked his nano. They asked my friend her opinion. She said that the only complaint she’d ever heard about the nano was that some of her guy friends found the click wheel was too small for his hands.

Somehow that exchange was overheard and turned into discriminating against asians. Seriously.

collapse Wha Says:

I can’t believe people didn’t realize Asain folks were considered inferior because of a decreased average “size.” That Yao Ming fella. What a sawed off candy ass. Can’t beleive anyone in the NBA would want him.
