Fairness is the biggest scam out there. Beware of any politician, hell any person, who tells you what is and is not fair. And any plan, proposal, or legislation with some variation of the word “fair” in it is definitely lying.
Case 1: A gas station owner in Wisconsin had the nerve to offer discounts to senior citizens and local sports boosters. But he’s going to have to stop. Why? His prices violate the Wisconsin “Unfair Sales Act, which requires stations to sell gas for about 9.2 percent more than the wholesale price.”
Case 2: The federal government hasn’t done enough to protect US manufacturers from “unfair foreign competition.” I didn’t know this until today, but we are spending money to employ a “manufacturing czar.” He will be “advocating for American manufacturers” as if they don’t do that on their own. It reminds me of a line from the movie Dave, which goes something like, “you’re spending 12 million dollars on ad campaign to make people feel better about a car that they already bought? I don’t want to tell some eight-year-old kid he’s gotta sleep in the street because we want people to feel better about their *car*. Do *you* want to tell them that?”
