I watched his Comedy Central show a few times, and got a few laughs. I quickly lost interest because it seemed like a rehashed, warmed-over version of Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla’s “The Man Show.”
Well, apparently I’m not the only one who thinks his stuff is borrowed. Joe Rogan, the Fear Factor guy, was nice enough to confront Mencia on tape (video below) to accuse him of joke theft (apparently Dane Cook is another allegedly notorious joke stealer). Mencia’s defense is mostly “shut up. You’re just a whiny bitch.”
When directly confronted about a joke about Mexicans building a border fence, Mencia goes into denial mode. Then when the owner of the joke, Ari Shaffir, shows up to defend himself, Mencia’s best defense is that Ari couldn’t have written a joke about Mexicans because Ari is Jewish.
So watch the video — with bad language and all — and lose some additional respect for Carlos Mencia.
