And another special thanks to…

Adelphia, Comcast, or whoever the heck is my cable/internet provider now. I’m just not sure because Comcast is close to or may have just finished officially purchasing Adelphia. There are myriad problems. For example a friend was unable to change her account through the telephone because her area code didn’t match her geographic service area. It seems Comcast has never heard of cell phones.

Anyway, me and God knows how many people, have a different problem. At some point early Thursday [November the 16th] morning they managed to selectively knock out access to certain domains, and in some cases, certain parts of certain domains.

I can get to cvillenews.com but not cvilleblogs.com.
I can get to tigerdirect.com but not tigernet.com.
I can get to www.itc.virginia.edu but not www.mail.virginia.edu.

Maybe they’ll get it fixed before it becomes a solid week on Thursday.

Personally I think 2007 is a better estimated repair time.

UPDATE(s):
11/25/2006 – The problem remains unresolved.
11/26/2006 – The problem remains unresolved. A not-so-quick call to Adelphia customer services and I was informed that the problem has absolutely nothing to do with Adelphia/Comcast. Something somewhere in the internet is “broken.”

11/26/2006 – I’m a jackass/dumbass/piece-o-shit hater. I mistakenly believed that since others were having similar problems that my problem did not exist on my end. And I was wrong and for once I owe an apology to a cable company. It appears that my router crapped out on me.
11/29/2006 – Scrath the stuff about me being a dumbass; I’ve changed my mind. My SMC router has been replaced with a brand new Linksys model but many of the same problems remain. It seems that Adelphia/Comcast has created a network that is not combatible with modern home networking equipment.

Far more amused than I should be

Here’s a video clip of two guys having a Super Mario Bros race.

It may remind some of you of 1988.

It reminds me of college, circa 2002.

Now I really wish I had not left my NES at home in Ohio.

“WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions could result in fire or explosion which could cause property damage, personal injury or death.”

It’s too late for Thanksgiving, but here’s the Alton Brown instruction set for frying a turkey.

A hint for the ladies: men will gladly learn to cook when trips to the hardware store and blueprints are involved.

In 2 weeks I’ve been on 3 trips, in 5 cities, and covered about 2,000 miles in my car. I’ve slept in 6 beds and on one floor. I estimate I’ve gained 5 pounds. In other news:

  • Comcast/Adelphia has yet to resolve last week’s problem.
  • O’Neill’s Irish pub was understaffed today with people who didn’t know how to change the channels on the television. The waitress told us she didn’t own a TV, never watched TV, and that she didn’t know how to operate a TV. I also noticed that she doesn’t know what Guinness is.
  • It was cool that Comcast Sports picked up the FSN broadcast of the Oregon/Oregon State game. It wasn’t cool that when the game went long they cut the game to 5% of the screen and cut the audio in favor of hockey.

‘Tis the season to be Merry.

Fuck them all.

I’ve got a 2nd interview on site with a big company next week. The job sounds interesting, but I fear the red tape and Office Space-ism that seems to abound.

In order to get set up for the 2nd interview, I got 3 emails and a phone call telling me I had to submit an official application.

Then I was thanked twice for submiting it.

Then I got another email asking to know my name, address, and phone number. Apparently my resume and application didn’t possess that information.

I can expect to be contacted again to register for another website so that I can get the details on my trip for the visit.

Yikes.

It’s profanity-laced tirade time here at Nobrainer’s Think Tank. Don’t worry, this one is pretty succinct. In fact this opening paragraph is being added just so that people who read the RSS feeds may possibly be spared some of my vulgar, immature, and overblown reaction to one of life’s common but more intolerable problems: bad drivers.

Ok. I think that’s enough filler. The tirade follows in the continuation.
