Shaving project update
Filed under: General, Shaving — nobrainer @ 5:10 pm

It’s been a few weeks since I last updated with what was a broad status report.

For the most part, I’ve been sticking with the Shave Secret oil. Combined with a decent razor it is just superb. Since I’ve been holding that variable constant, I have been using many of the razors I purchased. And in the process, I’ve my opinion has changed.

The double edged safety razor, while functional, is quickly losing my favor. I need to change the blades and use it some more, but it didn’t seem that the blades lasted all that long, and the odds of me cutting myself are extremely high.

I have also remembered why I didn’t like the Sensor. Using either the regular Sensor or Sensor3 cartridges, debris got stuck in between the blades. Removing it is a pain. Since the Sensor3 has basically the same contact surface as the Mach3, it fails.

I’ve also used the Fusion a bit more. I don’t hate it as much now as I did. I still think it’s too bulky though.

Until I put together a numeric ranking system, I’ll rank the razors this way: if I were going to a job interview or on a big date, I wouldn’t even consider using the Sensor or the DESR.

I’m able to get about a month out of a blade with my DESR. I’ve always prefered it to the other styles you mentioned because it’s easier to keep clean (free of facial hair) while with the other styles of razor as you say- “debris got stuck between the blades” which meant I ended up using more blades with those models.

*shrugs*

Plus with the DESR- I haven’t checked this- but I’ve always thought the blades were a little cheaper.

Good luck finding something that works for you.

Yeah, the DESR is definitely easy to keep clean. I really like that about it. And in that regard it stays well ahead of the Sensor. The open back design introduced with the Mach3 and built into the Fusion helps a lot.

And you are right. The DESR blades are WAY cheaper than the others. I think I paid about $5 for 10. For me, the DESR’s would be great if it was still 2003 when I shaved about once a week.

For the readers of the blog, I say if you’ve got access to a DESR, give it a shot. I’m not giving up on it yet. For me, however, I so far seem to exceed the low level of idiot-proofing it provides.

I am also attempting to obtain the perfect shave.
ShaveSecret is definitely a wonderful lubricant and the blade does glide smoothly with the razor.
I Use the Double Blade (Feather brand blade) and an adjustable razor
I adjust the razor to maximal opening to go with the grain of the bristle especially around the mouth area, then I re adjust the razor to the minimal opening to finish up the mustache and the throat and this way do not get any nicks. (Always use warm water to shave) and Very cold water to rinse. Then I use the Brut Aloa aftershave. (All these products are very Cheep). The(Feather or Merkur brand blades are the best and you will not cut yourself, and cost no more than 2.5 dollars for 10 blades, each double blade lasts one week easily, the other generic blades are not as sharp and will cut you).
