Slow service
Filed under: General — nobrainer @ 8:26 am

As you may have noticed, the loading time for the blog has gotten torturously slow. And I don’t have the foggiest idea of what the problem is, so I don’t even know where to start looking for answers.

Except that I do know where to start looking for answers: right here.

Any ideas, folks?

The most painful answer is to switch hosts… might I suggest Hard Hat Hosting.

A possible “fix” is to install the WP-cache plugin which (as the name suggests) caches your posts/pages as pseudo-static files and removes execution of WP logic and hits to the DB.

I’m paid up for the next 6 months or so, but I’ll look into switching.

Anyway, I tried installing the plugin and came up a message similar to the following.

advanced-cache.php link does not exist
Create it by executing:
ln -s /wp-content/plugins/wp-cache/wp-cache-phase1.php
/wp-content/advanced-cache.php

Which is great except that I have no idea how to do that.

Email me offline, I’ll chat you through it.

Also try commenting out your external javascripts — StatCounter and SiteMeter, and any others — to see if a remote site’s sluggishness is impacting you.
