I remain a bad person

My evidence:

  • I became very happy yesterday when I realized that if the Korean and I ever have kids they’ll qualify for minority scholarships. Minority scholarships are stupid, but perhaps the best way to fix the system is to abuse the sytem.
  • At least one Gamecock is willing to admit that the Clemson-Carolina rivalry has transitioned form rivarly to dominance. Unfortunately moments of clarity remain few and far between, even for this guy. I suppose surrender is a legitimate strategy. Just ask the French.
  • Living wage activists are on campus. Let’s just guess how much I like their message. You see, entry-level workers are earning “poverty wages” and sometimes still have to rely on government benefits, which all of us have to pay for. Obviously it is better to for the University to cut to the chase…. the government funded University, which we pay for…???

We're not gunna protest

Time to throw meat on the Cause-heads I suppose.

You realize the Korean still dry heaves any time she sees a child under the age of 10, right?

“You could make the argument that USC battles Clemson for the top recruits in South Carolina, but the Gamecocks have to fend off overtures from the likes of Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee for those players, too, and they play in the SEC. I know it’s a matter of state pride for most Gamecocks (and myself, too, for having lived here the last three years), but the simple fact of the matter is, no matter how many times we may lose or even beat Clemson, it will never help our athletics teams win SEC titles, and that should be the primary goal.”

Well, the primary goal should be to win NATIONAL titles (which Clemson has done). I think that’s USC’s problem, they aim too low and always assume it’s fluke (or “in their heads”) when they lose.

Perhaps he’s onto something though, if Clemson was wiped from their schedule and they replaced that game with, say, Temple or Ball State, they might become bowl-eligible a little more often. And that kind of stuff looks good to recruits. At least it does to recruits who are looking to win–Willy Korn and Ricky Sapp. A quick comparison between CU and USC the record speaks for itself. Come to Clemson — you’re at least going to win one game at the end of the year!

Also, a truth that the author misses is that SC’s annual athletic talent pool is almost insignificant compared to Florida or Georgia or North Carolina. Florida has 17 million residents, Georgia 8.7 mil. and North Carolina has 8.4 mil, compared to South Carolina’s paltry 4.1 mil. The fact that the state can field two competitive Division I teams is remarkable.
Historically, UT, UGA, & UF have come into SC and cherry picked the best players away, but how often do you hear about a school in South Carolina stealing the #1 player from Florida? What would it take to pull off that feat?!

cough cough

Oh. Right. CJ Spiller, the #1 RB in the country, is coming to Clemson this year (and James Davis, hailing from GA and the #6 RB in the nation in ‘05, already ran all over USC). Considering the author refers to Clemson as the “armpit of the upstate,” maybe the Gamecock nation simply suffers from really bad taste.

I think Clemson supporters should support the ending of the rivalry. I’d rather play UGA anyway. We already have the best players in SC coming to the “armpit.”
