Peter Gibbons: The most they would do is put us for a few months into a white-collar, minimum-security resort! You know, they have conjugal visits there?
Samir: They do?
Michael Bolton: Shit. I’m a free man and I haven’t had a conjugal visit in six months.

Pacific Western Brewing Company is looking for investors for a new “organic water” operation.

Wow. just wow.

I have a cheese-shredder at home, which is its positive name. They don’t call it by its negative name, which is sponge-ruiner. Because I wanted to clean it, but now I have little bits of sponge that would melt easily over tortilla chips.

Another day, another failure
Filed under: JDGA, Technology, Computing, General — nobrainer @ 3:41 pm

No, my grades aren’t the issue here. Instead I have had another hard drive failure, nearly a month to the day after the last one.

Fortunately, this failure was in a backup computer which had two 160GB drives. The failed drive mostly just had program installations and not much else. Data loss was minimal. I’m a bit miffed, however, because this drive is only a few months old, and the other drive is the same kind and bought at the same time. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a refund or replacement.

I’m now putting copies of a lot of those files onto my new laptop hard drive. It looks like I really need to start backing everything up to CD/DVDs as well.

There are some implications for the JDGA server. Immediate free space has been reduced by 25GB to about 87GB. But that’s still a lot of free space to be used, and uploading has remained light since the inception. Also note that you should not upgrade AIM to the new Triton version. I added it when I was re-installing all my software. It doesn’t appear to allow for file transfers in the same way. Fortunately I had an extra, older install file for AIM laying around. (Somewhere, however, I know there is a website that specializes in holding old versions of programs for people who get ticked at updated versions.)

In other good news, I was inspired by Tom Sherman to test my upload/download speed using the Speakeasy speed test. Both clocked in at just over 1400kbps. So I’m not hurting for speed. (I’ll try to put up a little picture of the results later, after I’ve finished transferring all my music files to my laptop.)

Cheers,

Nobrainer

From the polls

[T]he pollsters asked, “was it absolutely right, somewhat right, somewhat wrong, or absolutely wrong that U.S.-led coalition forces invaded Iraq in Spring 2003?”

What’s the difference between being “somewhat right” and “somewhat wrong”?
