One hell of a back up plan

The average starting salary for mechanical engineers is now $51,046. That figure, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, is a 4.1% increase over last year. Gee, how horrible would it be for me if I dropped out of grad school. Shit! Only 51g’s per year?

I’m glad to see we’ve still got those civil engineering kids beat by almost 7 large.

It’s also nice how they throw in the liberal arts majors down there at the bottom. Just over $30,000. If I’m not mistaken, that amount is just a shade over what a decent waiter working full time can claim.

51k! damn I need to graduate again and come back into the workforce

maybe you can find an error and have your first diploma-from-concession-stand revoked and get a new one issued in a new year.

Just think of your current job as an extended internship.

That’s what I am doing. We found this same info on Clemson’s site the other day. Glad I have nearly three years exp[erience and am making less than the new hire average. I understand that MIT folks are in here and that my GPA wasn’t stellar. I did, however, act as multiple officers in a rather large student organization, founded an on-campus organization, received my EIT prior to graduation and now have 3 years experience and am half way to an MBA. Glad the house thing isn’t working out. I think that lateral move for mucho dinero is about 6 months down the line if a certain few family members don’t open their wallets or straighten out my compensation soon.

Seriously, how many people made 51K straight out. I didnt, still dont, and already have my Masters degree.
Horseshit i say.

collapse nobrainer Says:

Well I’m not straight out. But I expect to make at least 55 to 60 once I finish here at this “hellUVA” school. haHaHA!

Update - this afternoon I spoke with one of the out-going UVA ME masters students. He said that he has already turned down one offer for $67,000 per year.
