Upon further consideration

I believe I have clearly communicated that February 14th, AKA St. Valentine’s Day, effectively means nothing to me. (Although I have subtracted 9 months from the date I was due to be born, which was November 10th…think about that)

But I digress. A couple days removed from the event, I am reconsidering my official position.

It seems to me, that the savvy should be taking advantage of this event.

Given the structure of the “holiday”, it promotes an acute romance vacuum. Sure, those who are in relationships have to go out of their due to social norms. Consider, for a moment, how many people approach 2/14 with overblown expectations. Throughout the country there are innumerable women who would tolerate a temporary lapse in personal standards for the sake of being able to celebrate the “holiday” properly. Fortunately, I am only getting better with age. It’s amazing what advanced education and the promise of “stability” can offer. Yes, the “holiday” creates a romance void. I vow to be available to fill that gap.

Why am I not taking advantage of this anomaly? It happens every year.

It is time for Nobrainer to capitalize on this knowledge. In 2006 I plan to recognize 2/14 for what it is at least 2 weeks in advance. In 2006 I will be prepared.

Valentines Day may not be worthless after all!

I have my comment spam blocking software set to send me an email for every 10 new comment spams I get.

I’ve gotten 5 of those emails today.

To my knowledge, since Spam Karma has been installed, no unwanted comments have been posted (except for those by Wha, but at least he isn’t advertising anything).

Update: And I got 3 more of those emails this morning.

I’m an idiot,

but it could be worse.

So ol’ Nobrainer was trying to plan ahead for the apparent March meeting of the JDGA. As I’m quasi-busy these days, I reckoned I’d check out the available airfares on priceline. The result? From Charlottesville to GSP for less than $200. I don’t like to fly, but this price was pretty convincing…. That was until I realized that the whole point of the trip was to GOLF. I am not set up to fly as a golfer. The money it would cost to make that preparation would be self defeating.

It took me a long time to come to that realization though. I was thinking that my brother may be a good member who could round out the spring plebe class. I realized that his flying to town would restrict his ability to bring a set of clubs. A few minutes later I realized I would have the same issues.

I’m quite glad I realized all this before I booked tickets.

And the real moral? No matter how many degrees you have, you can still be a complete retard.

Some bad news

I’d like to send out some thank-yous to people who have helped me become a better drinker. Funk, give Cyndi my thanks for suggesting that Gatorade should be consumed as soon as one wakes up after a night of drinking. And thank you to the folks who make my whiskey and/or bourbon. After a night of massive consumption, I can wake up relatively unscathed. This old dog is glad that he can still learn new tricks.

Not only is my head clear, but the weather today is a most excellent spring preview. Mostly sunny and a high in the mid-sixties. That will be one reason why today is better than yesterday.

I would also like to claim a small victory over Hallmark. They got none of my money yesterday. They’ll probably win in the end, but this round goes to me. Kerry 1, unnecessary corporation-supported holiday 0.

Well this grad assistant is going to get some work done, and quick so the weather can be enjoyed while it lasts.

  • Is today some sort of holiday or something? I didn’t get any memos. It appears that I still have to be at work… and it’s rainy and miserable outside.
  • I’ve heard that my blogging software has released a new version. Over the next week or so, I will attempt to upgrade. If the blog is down for a while, just wait longer.

That is all.
