Beer Commercials
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 7:29 pm

WTF is wrong with Miller and Coors these days? I fully realize they are not winning the market share battle in American beer sales. However, the logic mustered in many of their recent commercials is just horrid.

Now I don’t have any major problems with either company’s products. I would gladly accept any of their fresh products if they were free. Moreover, I would not be destroyed if I was faced with a non-Anheuser-Bush situation.

The commercials of which I speak, often extol their products’ possession of more flavor or taste. I won’t disagree that there’s more taste, but it isn’t a better taste. Similarly, TigerTales has more strippers than my local Hooters, but I’d rather get ripped off by Hooters. Furthermore, I’d bet that a big stinking heap of dog shit has “more flavor” than a can of Bud Light.

With all that, I will stick with my AB products when it comes to common American brews. If I want a really good beer, I will look elsewhere.

World War III
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 4:51 pm

If this event were to happen within the next four years, this is my loose and unofficial prediction of what will happen.

There would be three main groups involved in this process. There would be “Pro-America and capitalism”, Anti-America (wait, doesn’t that sum it up right there?…. no), and the “we’re too chicken shit to fight”.

I won’t speculate on what might set off this firestorm.

Let me look at some world powers, and guess which side they’ll be on.

America - obviously pro-American
England - despite some grumblings, definitely pro-American
Australia - Give them some extra Fosters and they’re always on our side.
Japan - Since the end of WWII, they’ve known which side of a conflict to be on.
South Korea - I think they still like us.
Iraq - Well this depends on the state of things between now and the potential WWIII, but I think/hope they’re smart enough to realize where they should be.
Afghanistan - We gave them democracy and a booming (illegal) drug industry.
Pakistan - I think they like us
India - We give them more jobs than we give our homeless.
China - I grant they are communists, but they understand money, see ‘India’.

Who’s against us:
France - Despite being a military joke for the last 80 years or so, they have decent technology and a hatred for America. Moreover, pro-American troops will refuse to fight with any group that is also in favor of the Frence.
Russia - Putin is doing his best to do a gigantic U-turn in Russia. Their only industry is circumventing UN policy.
North Korea - Their dictator stands about 5′ tall. Can you say Napolean complex?
Iran - We hate everything about their government. They defintely aren’t going to fight with us.
Germany - I’m not entirely sure of this one, but I think if they get pissed enough, they’ll take a side unlike Spain (see below). Then again, they may decide they want to win a war at some point, but I’m still not counting them as being on our side.

Who’s neutral (notables)
Canada - They’ll start out as pro-America, but after tens of millions of American hippies head north, they’ll quickly give up the fight. In thanks for taking in Anit-war Americans, the US will not fight them.
Spain - They’ve just lost the will to fight.

Well that pretty much sums it up. I think that our side is in good shape, unless China or India decide to go the other direction. Who knows…. Besides, what do I look like a fucking engineer?

Firefox Plug-ins
Filed under: Computing — Nobrainer @ 9:09 am

Well the ‘net is apparently crawling with plug-ins for the new Firefox browser. I’ll let you look around for yourself, but I will suggest the BugMeNot plug-in. Install it, and whenever you are asked to register for some stupid website, you can right click in the “member” box, select bugmenot, and it will automatically enter a username and password from the bugmenot database.

This one is important, but do not let it substitute for a visit to an actual eye-doctor.

Blogs worth checking out
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 8:47 pm

As I have had much work to do recently, I have been more efficient with my procrastination time. I have found some blogs which I believe are worth your investigation:

First, for you non-vegetarians… scratch that for you CARNIVORES, out there, you may enjoy Grilling BBQ Meat. The blog format is a bit off-putting, but the information presented seems to be worthwhile.

And the other two, in no particular order are:
Meh - “Everyone is handi-tarded, but thats okay, I am going to attempt to explain why by using daily examples from my life.” You just may enjoy it.

Gaia the Carnivore - “Random musings on the follies of humankind. Sacred cows capriciously and brutally butchered for amusement. Fools, morons, imbeciles, and idiots taunted for sport. You and I are fine. The rest of them are weird.” with the recently published: “December: National ‘Let the Idiot Drive’ Month”

And since I know you’re planning on buying me something for Christmas, you can find my wish list here.

Giuliani in ‘08
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 8:13 pm

Hugh Hewitt seems to think so. His basis method for this article is informal, but it may well be correct. I personally have no faith in McCain. Arnold won’t be able to run in ‘08 without a miracle. Otherwise I see Rudy as the front-runner with numerous other wannabes trying to cut in line. So aside from Jeb Bush, or some other new-found Republican all-star (preferebly a governor, or at least not a Senator) joining the race, I think I’ll be giving Rudy the benefit of the doubt.

This saddens me though. From memory, it seems that Hillary has to run for re-election in the Senate in ‘06. I would personally love to see Rudy knock her out of politics, hopefully forever. But I cannot imagine, nor can I encourage, him to embark upon a Presidential bid immediately after winning a seat in the Senate. Of course, it would be fan-fucking-tastic if he beat Hillary in the NY ‘06 Senate race, and was able to trounce her again in the ‘08 Presidential race.

But if I had to choose, I’d take a solid Republican President over seeing Hillary lose in the Senate. And let me be realistic for a moment. It’s better for the conservatives if the far-left-wingers of this country keep the crazies in office. That only diminishes their national presence. And while I’m approaching it, I am not going to go all the way to admit that Hillary is a necessary-evil.
