Statistics I hate
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 6:23 am

Those that know me, are generally aware that I hate doing statistics problems. That’s not what this post is about, fortunately.

No, I am sick of hearing about gun statistics on the news. There have been several newsworthy stories about gun legislation. The opponents then always cite how many crimes occurred with ILLEGAL guns. They point out that guns are the problem, but then look right past the fact that making them illegal previously DIDN’T stop the crimes that their utopian minds had predicted.

Try this online game. Test your skills at lining up putts.

WARNING, this is more difficult than it appears.

And I want to give my congratulations to Florida, who doesn’t have any hurricanes currently aimed at it. Maybe they’ll get all the electricity hooked up before the enxt one hits.

Succeeding where Pendleton House failed
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 4:16 pm

This article describes the ingenuity of some college kids in Florida.

Not only did they get a stripper pole installed on campus, and not only did they not get in direct trouble for having a big party with alcohol in an on campus apartment, but they managed to get about 12 girls to compete on the pole.

BRILLIANT!

Upgrades
Filed under: Computing — Nobrainer @ 6:41 pm

I finally got a new laptop. I like the computer, but I’m still not sure how much I like WinXP. I’ve already made a ton of changes to make it feel like Win Classic. It still feels like it has too many frills.

Just before my new machine arrived, I installed Firefox on my old machine. It’s an open-source browser, which is associated with the Mozilla group. Anyway, it seems to work just as well as IE for loading most webpages. On the whole, it seems to be a smaller, more effecient program. Some pages are actually presenting fewer problems. I was having major issues with Adobe Acrobat causing errors in IE. Those are now gone. Firefox also automatically blocks pop-ups, and does as well as the Google Toolbar. Anyway, it’s worth checking out.

I’m also getting sick of AIM. The basics I like, but they keep addings in useless garbage. I think it was worth paying $5 for DeadAIM, but that is only good for one computer. I now use at least 3 machines regulary. Know of anything else?

I also recommend Plaxo. This is quite useful for Outlook and Outlook Express users. Your contacts are available from anywhere. Plus, if your friends sign up, when they update their address, it automatically updates your address book.

Clemson vs UVA. I think I can get tickets if anyone is interested. Interested?

Assault Weapon Ban
Filed under: General — Nobrainer @ 9:08 pm

Banning assault weapons is like banning alcohol, or drugs.

It’s legislation for legislation’s sake. People find what they want anyway, except higher prices are paid, and people get rich doing it. If there’s enough money to be made, we create criminals who are willing to assume the risk.

Of course this particular legislation appears to have been about as well written a bowl of alphabet soup.

The left, once again, is in serious need of an uppercut from a clinched right hand.
