Universal health care

- All opposed, say ‘nay.’

- nay

In my opinion, if you want the health issues of this country to get worse, universal health care will the be method of choice.  Of course no one addresses some of the real issues of increased health care.  I refer of course to decreased health.

But let me prophesize momentarily.  IF universal health care is approved, the budgets will grow exponentially.  AND as when the prices are too high, the fix will be imposed.  What fix you ask?  Certainly not the elimination of universal health care.  Nay, it will be a matrix of who really deserves health care.  I don’t even believe that’s a horrendous idea.  I read about how much of medicaid went to people in their last year of life.  I can recall my grandpa’s condition when the doctors recognized that his body was riddled with cancer.  I can only imagine how much was spent on prolonging his nearly finished life.  Surely it is nice to spend as much time as possible with a loved one, but how much money was essentially wasted on that particular endeavour.  He passed away.  It happened.  It was inevitable.  Now multiply that by hundreds or thousands of times.  And that is why I foresee the “healthcare matrix” that will determine who does and does not deserve healtcare.

But the general point… the more the government babysits, the more the people will act like babies.

Now that I’ve lost weight, I’m sure something will happen to make me look stupid. With average American weight reacing new highs everyday, I imagine that a great famine will occur within the next few years, and all the porkers will be the only ones who survive… if that happens I hope I die.

No, that title’s not a description for any part of my life.  It’s just my latest catch phrase for people who should have been required to have a license to have children… err, that is to say that they shouldn’t be breeding.  Anyway, there are two pregnant women at work.  One of them is a beast of a woman.  I’d venture to say she’s at least 6ft/180lb to begin with.  Today she asked me to pick up and move a 30 lb box of salad for her.  “I can’t lift it.”  Yes you can.  If you cannot, don’t work.  If you’re working because you have to save for the new mouth to feed, then you shouldn’t have gotten pregnant.  Even I can understand the basics of contraception.

Rant over.

I’m finally watching Jeopardy with the all time winningest player. I don’t believe that he’s any smarter than the average player, but he seems to have mastered the timing. Somehow he rings in before everyone else. Is he able to read ahead and ring in? I was of the impression that one could not ring in until the question had been fully read.

- When will laser eye surgery be covered by insurance? Hopefully it will happen soon. I think I need to buy glasses soon, I’m getting sick of contacts, and I’d like to look smarter.

- I wish that Wachovia would merge with Chase-Manhatten which just merged with Bank One. If MBNA could get put in there somewhere, I could combine all my accounts into one company.

- John Kerry… Communist hero.

- I heard someone say that Oprah has told her viewers that it’s ok to leave bad tips as long as you praise the service. To quote Southpark, “Fuck you” Oprah! That’s plenty fucking easy to say when you’re a millionaire! And I know it’s worse because I guarandamntee that Oprah required more food and refills than people of normal weight.

ok… i’m spent. later.

- nobrainer

my readings…

Today I completed “The Economics of Public Issues.” After reading the evidence presented in the book, I am inclined to believe that competition should be the ultimate goal of our government. Education, communication, forest usage, and many other issues should be set up to encourage competition. Let students choose their schools (i.e. something along the lines of a voucher system). Deregulate phone service and remove barriers to competing against the USPS. SEND JOBS OVERSEAS! Yes, some estimates show that the cost of keeping some jobs in the US is greater than the salary paid to that worker. In the grand scheme of things, the country would be better off to buy the foreign product, tell the American worker to stay home, and give that American worker a raise for staying home. NAFTA and the WTO are good steps in the direction of opening up trade. The idea is that if we buy products from foreign countries at fair prices, they will in turn begin buying more things from us. Of course the reason to not buy things from us are our non-competitive wages. Any time someone argues to “save jobs” they really mean that we should subsidize people who are already overpaid.

It goes on and on, but I recommend this book as a must read. It’s “The Economics of Public Issues, 12th Ed.” by Miller, Benjamin, and North.

Additionally, most things that we seek to ban these days would be better treated by simply allowing them. Allow drugs, alcohol to all, abortions, and prostitution among other things and regulate them. Invest the huge savings to education of such topics.

Want to reduce trash creation? Increase removal rates. Want to conserve water? Increase rates. Want cleaner air? Support the plan to allow corporations to buy and sell pollution credits.

Basically, anything done for humanity, or to be humane results in increased losses.

30% of Medicare’s budget goes to patients in their last year of life. I think it’s ridiculous to spend billions of dollars to keep people alive for a few extra weeks or months. What’s next, free cryogenic freezing? Death happens. Accept it. Mourn. Move on. Being humane is great, but in the long run too much humanity will destroy humanity.

And to the socialists, and wealth redistributors… we can live in a country of economic divides or we can all be poor and miserable together.
