Does anyone else think that the Atkins thing is BS? I sure do. I believe it’s successful for one simple reason: people eat less. I have no doubt this “low carb” boom will boomerang in a couple years as people will begin eating “low carb”, but be eating twice as much as they used to. I have even heard that 75% of people living the “low carb” lifestyle are consuming about 120 g of carbs, which is apparently 6 times what is recommended by Atkins. Maybe these people are finally consuming a normal level of carbs.
I am now down about 30 lbs from my max of last fall. Unfortunately, I’m still on the borderline of normal and overweight, per BMI calculations. I believe it. I find it irritating that 15-20 lbs ago (on the way up to the 190’s) told me that I looked find and to not worry about it. Is this a case of friend’s being nice? Or is it a case of Americans thinking that “average” for someone my height (5′8″) to weight 180 lbs? That’s a cool 15 lbs more than they should weigh. I’m sure if and when I get down to 150, everyone will mention how skinny I am. The shame is that 150 is a perfectly normal (and healthy) weight.
… Looks like I just might live long enough to get old.
